Age is an important factor that must be considered by women and their partners on deciding when to become a mother. This is not the negative factor, just to be clear. There are a lot of women who wait until the age of 30 before becoming a mother because of their personal freedom and some of their career choices. However, there are a lot of women, because of these factors, may fear that they are already too late. They fear that if they wait too long, they will have difficulty becoming pregnant or their baby will have abnormalities. There may be a high risk that a woman who waits for her twenties to end may bear a child who has abnormalities or will have difficulty getting pregnant, but studies show that there is no danger in these cases. The truth is, age is just a small factor when weighing out the risk and benefits.
Beside the age, there are other factors for becoming a mother and have a healthy pregnancy. The age of the father is another factor to be considered, because the age can be incorporated with infertility. The financial background, the maternal risk and the socio-economic condition of the mother must also be considered in deciding when to become a mother. The age is just a small factor to consider when it comes to risks of complications during pregnancy. More important factors to be considered are malnutrition. If the woman is poorly nourished before, and during pregnancy, then complications are more likely to occur.
Most women usually do not take age into consideration when deciding to become a mother. Yes, the woman may have a healthier body for pregnancy during her twenties, but she may not be that ready emotionally. She may still not be mature enough to be a parent during her twenties. The woman may still be very focused with her career that starting a family during her twenties. Or maybe, she still haven’t meet the right man to become the father of her children yet. Most women are just not yet ready to have a family in their twenties. Age may have an effect to fertility, but according to studies, a woman can be fertile no matter what age as long as she is healthy. The general health of the mother is the most important factor to consider for pregnancy no matter what age. This means, you must be more conscious about your overall health than your age if you are planning to become a mother.
According to Dr. Tony Falconer, the president of the Royal College of Obstetrician and Gynecologists, 20-35 is the best age for women to become a mother. But he is still having a hard time disseminating this information to the people that matter because his facts are still difficult to comprehend by the close minded traditional society.
